I was call out to inspect a manufactured home roof 2000 yr gable 3 tab 3 12 slope for insurance reasons.

There are a few things that you should consider about asphalt shingles. I found that the first 1 to 2 feet from facial board on the west side was rotten. Considering the fact that most manufactured homes have smaller sized lumber for roof rafters and then probably 1 2 or less thickness for roof decking plywood or o s b i would not add anymore weight to the roof. The roof seems to be solid and the home is taken care of. I m looking for any other explanations to explain this. Has anyone come across this on a mh.

Two layers is usually all they do. Will this ad too much weight to the roof structure. On site built homes two or three layers of shingles are acceptable but on a mobile home only one layer is permissible. If the roof has multiple layers typically the insurance company will only insure the top layer.
